Encounter Darkness

They were rich and they were prominent—Caralyn Austin’s new in-laws— and her husband, Gary, was far away in Vietnam. Perhaps these were the reasons for her uneasiness when she came to visit the family for the first time. But the more she got to know them, the deeper her fears became. Gary’s two brothers were positively weird, and his mother, who apparently tried to make the young bride feel at home, still never removed the impression that Caralyn was an intruder in a closed circle. The big house, isolated as it was on an island, made her feel worse. Why were so many doors locked? It was as though something were being hidden. Suddenly, Caralyn realized that she was in¬ deed an intruder, and one who might perhaps have discovered too much about the Austin family . . . too much for her own safety.
