The Douay-Rheims version is the work of Douay and Rheims colleges in France. Under William (later Cardinal) Allen, in October of 1578, Gregory Martin began the work of preparing an English translation of the Bible for Catholic readers. This would later become the first such translation into modern English. The college published the New Testament at Rheims, France, in 1582.
